SPEAKER_00

We're gonna weaken up this weekend on the back lady magic, and we're gonna weaken it again. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. There's a lot of the college baseball on. We got the bats out, even though we are more of a fitching kind of team. Jason, college baseball is pretty good this week for us. Not a bad week, not a bad week. Bad week for some, good week for some. What we thinking? What we think?

SPEAKER_01

Some surprises as far as matchups we didn't think we would have to even be worried about this week.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So you know, some crucial, crucial matchups for teams that are looking to host.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, I was, yeah, we again we'll we'll quickly hit it because we were kind of surprised by Nebraska getting swept of one of those teams. I was honestly surprised of the uh Auburn, Texas AM series. Uh I mean that's really surprised me. Uh we'll kind of do a quick rundown of what we're gonna talk about, just a notable top series. We'll review those. Uh there was a lot of one and two conference kind of games this week, so we'll talk about those. Jason's gonna give us his final five arms of the week, and then we'll hit us at the end of the trivia question. Uh, before we start, look, we're gonna do a uh Field of 64 uh live recap. Uh Jason's done a really good job this week kind of setting it up. Um Kimmy has also done a lot of good work setting it up. As in I let him do the work, I make it pretty close. That's normally the way it goes. Uh but geez, man, it it's it's getting so close that I'm just I I even mentioned to you, it feels like it should be next week that we're starting, but we still got like two weeks left in this, so uh it's getting a little crazy. Let's overlook it, Jason. Uh pit at Florida State, Arizona State, Central Florida, uh, Florida at Oklahoma. Uh yes, no, Florida, no, crap. Yeah, yeah. It was that. You got it right. Uh the Army Navy series that you and I were kind of going back and forth on. Auburn, AM, Mississippi State, and Texas. I see some green halfface, halfways, but how you think? How you think?

SPEAKER_01

I think the only one that kind of was was tough was the Auburn AM series. I mean, even if you look at what we chose for Florida State and Pitt, we both had Florida State winning the series. We even talked about just how difficult it is to sweep, and we thought Florida State probably had a chance, but it's hard to pick a sweep. Um, but that Auburn, Auburn coming into college station and winning against Texas AM is is pretty tough.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, let's hit on that first since we've already on it. Uh I I believe I had AM sweeping just of the fact of I don't again, I keep saying I don't really trust on Auburn. Auburn but Auburn's completely different now. I mean, I'm not even gonna complain about it. Uh I'm proud that Auburn took a 2-1 series. I mean, Auburn used one pitcher in game one. You and I talk about the pitching staff, and I think we'll get into this a lot in the in the week. There was a lot of pitching staffs that only use one or two guys on one of these games. So when you kind of just you save your you save your bullpen, you let your your batters kind of just have free range, and that's what the Auburn coaching staff said. It was like, yes, our bats did an incredible job. I mean, 18 to 5 game one, but your your pitching staff helped out a ton, right?

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, definitely that confidence uh in the offense allows the pitching to just go out there and and pitch freely, just like the bats are swinging freely, right? You allow those guys to go out there and uh pitch pitch easily, allow the bullpen to get the rest, and then you get two tough games or one run games in both game two and game three, which you know sometimes that bullpen rest possibly was the difference for them. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, especially going into I we're gonna talk about other other games that I think Mississippi State this week wasted like six pitchers in a game, so that just kills you. But again, this was uh one of those top pitch and staff games. Uh and I said I said my reason that I had AM sweeping was because of the atmosphere. And I I put it on our notes. I put Savannah Bananas in the question mark. Savannah Bananas broke uh baseball almost, I think, record period. They had a game at Kyle Field. Why? Uh maybe those AM fans, do you think that killed the momentum? I don't know. Maybe I'm thinking a little too deep. But wait, they had a game at the football stadium? Yes. Oh my gosh. They sat 102,000 plus at the yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's insane.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there was uh I think a what it was only one night. Dude Perfect showed up. I can't believe we're talking about the Santa Bananas right now, but uh but yeah, AM, they oh yeah, they're great. Uh man, I a little disappointed in AM, but any other thoughts on this before we move on to the next matchup?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, hats off to the Auburn pitching staff. I mean, you talked about it before in in the midweek when we were previewing it about how good Auburn's pitching staff is and how the offense is kind of what we kind of question at times, but that the pitching staff is one of the best right up there with Texas in the SEC and in the country, and they really showed out this weekend. So, I mean, AM's bats have been hotter than anybody. And so for them to kind of shut them down, I mean, they still gave up you know 13 runs, but 13 runs across three games for an AM offense that has been as dominant as they have been lately. It's pretty good, pretty good for the Auburn pitching staff, and it's hats off to the Auburn bats in game one, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, let's jump into the next SEC game, kind of the same store. If we're gonna talk about pitching staffs, Mississippi State and Texas. Now, I watched today's game. Mississippi State blew the league pretty bad. I mean, it was 6-0, I believe, oh man, was that third, fourth, and it was early. And it just got well, I'm gonna quote a queen from Baton Rouge. It went from worse to worse, or okay. Uh, but uh Texas Piss and Staff, they they figured it out. We talked about it last week. Uh Dylan uh Vilatis. I freaking listened to him say his name multiple times. Anyway, he got 12 K's, Rio Rio Haas came in the next day seven K's, Luke Harrison with nine K's. I mean, incredible performance. I mean, today Mississippi State used three pitchers and they were trailing eight to five before it just got really bad. I mean, they used eight pitchers today, so but it was a pitchers duel Friday, kind of a back and forth game, and that uh that's what um kind of propelled and it was one of those just those late evening games where you know Texas gets two runs.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, we talk about Texas's pitching staff in general, but uh, you know, outside of the starters, bullpen's been solid this year as well. Uh and that's what you really need to look forward to when you get towards postseason play, is how well your bullpen is playing, even more than your starters. Uh their bullpen went out there through four innings today and only gave up one hit. Um, but also, yeah, you were talking about how Texas blew it open today, nine runs and a third to take a nine-five lead. And I think it's more also important to note that Texas gets 11 runs today, zero home runs. That tells a lot about your offense. Yeah, 11 hits, 11 runs, and that tells a lot about you know balanced hitting, um, not just going up there and swinging for the fence. And also, I think when you get a lead, and you were talking about the bats coming alive for Auburn, you get confidence up there. You don't feel like you need to be the hero. You feel like you can go up there and take a couple pitches. If I get out, if I get out on a on a pitch that I didn't like, oh well. But you don't feel like you're having to go up there and swing for the fences and and right play hero ball.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's what's so good about uh Georgia Tech's team is they're they're so good at that that that kind of hitting wise where they can focus. And but uh speaking of home runs, I I well, I don't want to leave this Texas game, but yeah, the only reason you know Mississippi State got the the game on on the second game is Texas had this issue at the beginning of the year is after the seventh or eighth inning, it got that team kind of just would give up leads. Um and that's kind of the only reason why Mississippi State was able to take a game this series, but um which is the way baseball works. I mean it's it's I don't think and I think we even hit it last week. I don't think this was a game that was gonna really hurt both of them as much as it could have, unless it depended on how bad they lost, RPI-wise, I guess.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, I mean we did talk about that. About you know, if Mississippi State doesn't get blown out, I don't think it really hurts them. I I don't think it I don't think it could really propel Texas much further unless the teams above them lose. And so um, but either way, great series. I mean, three to one in the game one. Uh and you know, Texas gets the big gets the big lead today, but overall great series, and you like it when it there's no sweep, right? And it just shows that there's good balance in the league.

SPEAKER_00

And we'll hit the last SEC matchup. We'll talk about Florida and Oklahoma. Uh look, I when we were talking about it last week, we I really wanted to bring up the fact that we said the pitcher's duel would be incredible Friday. Now King did well, but unfortunately, you just kind of once I think when you you get taken out, you gotta rely on the next guy to come up. Um Jasis, do you want to walk us through any of this game or your thoughts on Aiden King?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, uh Aiden King, great game. Seven and seven innings, what, ten strikeouts? Yeah, and so I mean he's he's what we expect. He left with the lead. Uh bullpen kind of lets him down a little bit. And uh, you know, OU gets three runs in the eighth, they don't even have to worry about the ninth. And so Oklahoma takes game one. Uh but I think it also tells a lot when you look at the rest of the the rest of the series and the way it went. Oklahoma was on the verge of getting swept, and we talked about it a couple weeks ago. Florida having AM and Oklahoma back to back, um, you know, at home against AM, on the road to Oklahoma, they were gonna need to win one of those series, and they came through and won today's series, this weekend series. So uh big props to them coming through. And uh, you know, you you had Oklahoma 2-1, but I know you you were kind of on the fence of it anyway.

SPEAKER_00

So Yeah, and I I'll tell you why I was on the fence, and even when I was on the fence and thinking about it, you even mentioned, you said offense will come alive, maybe their offense will come alive like they did against Georgia. And I knew in the back of my mind, I was like, Florida, I bet you Florida's gonna come out this week and just get those home runs like they did. They had seven home runs in game three. Like, if that's the thing that Florida, I think, and it's and honestly, I think I've said that all all the entire time that how what is Florida? What is Florida? And I guess I'll have to submit submit, and I'll say Florida is a team that probably deserves to definitely be a two or three. I mean probably two in a in a regional.

SPEAKER_01

I think as of right now, they're sitting at a two. Um, but depending on how these next two weekends go with them having Kentucky and LSU, uh, their strength of schedule is just so strong. If they end up, I don't think they do, but if they were to sweep both those series, we're we're gonna be talking about Florida hosting a regional.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. All right. Uh Jason, you were pretty close to any of these series. I know Arizona State and and uh Pittsburgh, you were pretty close on.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so uh let's you know, Florida State. I think the easy thing we can quickly touch on it. Florida State's pitching staff really came alive again. You talked about it, them going to Stanford. Was it just a layover with the travel? It seems like that was the case. They come back home, they get a sweep against a hot Pittsburgh team who had just went 4-0 last week with the win over West Virginia and the sweep over Virginia. Uh, and so Florida State to come in and get this get this big series win is good for them. Uh, we both had 2-1, but we're we're not surprised that it was a sweep. So anything else you you want to hit on that one?

SPEAKER_00

No, I mean, just besides you know, their pitching staff putting it in place, we talked about West Mendez. Um complete game, seven, seven K's, only giving up five hits, and the one run was a home run. So yeah. I think this was cool about some of these games we're seeing. The the pitching staffs did really, really great this week. Really great this week.

SPEAKER_01

And then when we look at the Arizona State UCF series, we talked about it. We were saying, hey, we're gonna we're gonna take a guess on this one. One one game. What's the highest scoring game gonna be? But I had nine to four, and then I get on there that evening, look at the scorebug, and I see nine to four Arizona State immediately screenshot it, sent it to Kenny, and said, What the heck? That was it was really cool.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm glad we we didn't, I think we were talking about the third game because we were I said that Central Florida was gonna come up in one of those games and kind of just put put Arizona State away, but that's not what happened. Uh so but I'll uh Arizona State's growing, man. Yeah, it's good good for them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, game one, new Contratus. He leads the team with four hits, three RBIs to lead them to that victory. And then when you think about game two, it ended up getting suspended due to weather after two innings. And uh we talked about we've we've talked about Camden Wicker a lot, uh, the starting pitcher for UCF. And we had said, like, hey, look, for me, that was why I had chosen them to win one game, was because I thought Wicker would end up leading them to a victory. Well, it turns out they end up winning the game he starts, but he doesn't actually even get the win because they end up getting suspended into Sunday. And so UCF get still gets gets the win in uh game one of Sunday. And then uh when you look at game three of the series, uh Arizona State ends up tying the game in the eighth, three-three, and then getting three in the ninth to end up winning the game six-three. Uh tough, tough loss for UCF in that one. But uh I think it tells us a lot about Arizona State's offense kind of coming alive. Uh, we we I remember when we looked back at the BYU series before that one, we were on the fence of how good this Arizona State team really is. I mean, Harrison's at the top of the lineup, he's one of the best hitters in the country, batting over 420. And you know, he's not even draft eligible, can he? We're we're still gonna get another year of him.

SPEAKER_00

Well, they're they're gonna have a happy time, and I bet you certain teams are gonna be shopping for him, and hopefully LSU is one of them.

SPEAKER_01

I'm sure it's gonna happen. But uh, so it kind of tells us a lot about Arizona State and the Big 12 in general, uh, because Arizona State lost the series to West Virginia earlier this year. So now we start thinking about okay, how much does that help West Virginia's RPI status? Um, and Kansas as well. Kansas with a we didn't we're not gonna talk about it much, but Kansas ends up getting a sweep again this weekend. Uh and so I believe they played Houston, right? No, Cincinnati had Houston. Uh I'm now I'm blanking. Kansas had Kansas gets a sweep over Arizona. So big one for the Big 12.

SPEAKER_00

Amen to the Big 12. Last game we're gonna talk about good old Army Navy game. Navy loses a serious army again. I'm not happy about my midshipman. I'm not I'm not satisfied. I hate losing army, but golly, did they get killed on game three?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, 16-4 game three, but if we bounce over to game one, that was a 13-inning game, Kenny. Both teams uh went into the went into extras. Both teams score two in the 11th. Army ends up prevailing with a run in the 13th. But I think what's huge here is Army uses two pitchers in the game, Navy uses three. Between the two of them, they only used five pitchers in a 13-inning game. That just speaks to speaks to a pitching staff that is more focused on hey, you just get the ball in there. We do not that a lot of these mid-major teams, they do not have depth like some of these uh SEC Big 12 teams have. And so they have to rely on guys who can eat up innings. They're not looking to get 10 strikeouts a game uh from one guy and then only throw five innings. They're looking to see these guys throw long innings, uh, I mean long games, long performances. And so for that, that that's kind of a shock for me, though, still, even 13 innings and five pitchers only.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there was a couple games this week that I saw that um whatever g game that was getting out of hand for either AM or crap. Maybe that was one of the midweek games where they were the pitcher was just being left in. I think, dude, suffer. I don't mind. I think pitchers need to be suffering sometimes because you gotta figure out who's gonna who's gonna be able to just get over the hump. And that's a good win for Army. Uh I I thought Navy was gonna be the team to kind of take the Patriots, the Patriot League's uh place in the tournament. But I mean, again, I think that just depends on how that that league turns out. Now uh I don't know if you're even aware. Was game two and three on the same day?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, they both were on uh wait, was it no no no? I believe games were they yeah, they were both today. They were both today. I believe game one, game two today was at noon, game three was like a couple hours later.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I noticed that the that's how Army and or Navy rolls is maybe that's just the whole that whole league itself.

SPEAKER_01

They yeah, it was strange. They didn't. I I actually remember when I was looking at the schedule its whole year, kind of does that. Yeah, Patriot does it on a Saturday. They didn't have any game on Friday. So yeah, the whole league. So interesting. Must just be how it is.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, we're gonna move into uh the mid-major games. Let me get over to the slide really quick. Look, we'll we'll hit these really quick. I think the only one that we really want to kind of hit up on is this uh Southeastern game. They're definitely the Jacksonville State and Missouri State game. I'm I'm I'm super proud of my pick. But uh man, let's get into the Jacksonville State, Missouri State game. We talked about it being uh I brought up that Missouri State's batting has just been down lately, and I said that was my reasoning behind Jacksonville State taking the dub. Jacksonville uh Missouri State batted 194 on game two. Like they did not have a great batting weekend at all. Uh their game one, Jacksonville State got 10 runs in in three, and then that after that it was just it. I mean, excuse me, Missouri State. Missouri State got 10 runs. Uh I mean Jacksonville State, you know, shut them out the rest of the game, but that uh it didn't matter, but what do you let's let's kind of deep dive into this series. Like what good good Jacksonville State, of course, but how bad does it hurt Missouri State? Uh I mean I've they got a lot to come through now. I mean, they've lost their last series.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is a tough one for Missouri State, especially being at home as well. I mean, we talked about it coming into it. You said offense isn't doing well, they're really gonna have to come alive again. They come alive in game one, they get 10 runs, win the game. You know, you think you're on the trajectory, now you're feeling pretty good, get some confidence. But man, Jacksonville State turned it around and did the did it right back to him in both two and three with double digit runs in both games. And uh kind of makes you wonder. I mean, Jacksonville State's RPA, I believe, was like right below Missouri State. These teams were somewhere around the 20s, right? Uh, but now this is gonna kind of propel Jacksonville. Jackson's Jacksonville State a little higher. They're going to move up to you know stay around number stay number one in Conference USA. And a tough conference USA. I mean a conference weekend where Dallas Baptist took a series over Louisiana Tech, who just swept Missouri State. And then you also have a good, strong Liberty team. So Jacksonville State gets a little gets a little room between them and two through three. Two and three.

SPEAKER_00

Missouri State. I think they got a long road ahead of them. I believe well, I think we were talking about them playing Auburn. Anyway, uh let me look that up before and let's hit the Southeastern Lamar game.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think uh if we look at this one, Southeastern gets six runs. Uh they only had six hits on the day, but three of them, three of their hits were home runs, so that kind of helps out a lot. And we talked about it coming into this. This is a team that's led by their offense and their slugging, and uh they hit a lot of home runs, so good to see them get those get get that game. Then if you look at game two, they end up winning in eight in seven innings, they end up seven run rule, uh, seven inning uh run rolling Lamar, ten to zero, uh, led by Connor Cuff's two home run day. And then game three, Lamar comes back, uh doesn't doesn't let them sweep them. And uh they're led by Travis Lutz with eight innings, six K's on the day. Uh so kind of shut down Southeastern's offense that had been really strong all weekend. So big hats off to Lutz uh to come through for his team. We both have 2-1, Kenny. Any surprises there? Is that pretty much how you thought it would go?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I pretty much thought it was how that was gonna go. Southeastern's playing really well. Honestly, a lot of Louisiana teams are playing pretty well for where they were at. I mean, we I think we talked about ULL the beginning of the uh before we started. UL's kind of getting up there. Um but uh speaking of uh the directional schools, Jason, what about the Cardinal directions and the other directions over at uh SIMO?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Illinois at home, uh hats off to these guys. Uh we neither of us were on Eastern Illinois this weekend. Uh I talked about Bryce Riggs a little bit, and that he would probably be the one that kind of, if they were gonna win a game, that that would be the game they'd have the chance on, which was game two on Saturday. But he still pitches a great game, gets over seven innings, it holds them to one run, and uh they end up winning the game 11 to 1. But gets the whole that I mean they really shut down Eastern Missouri State, South sorry, Southeast Missouri State in this one. If I look at Friday, I believe they had three runs on three hits. Let me check and verify that just to make sure. Three runs on three hits. Meanwhile, eastern Illinois had five five runs on eight hits. I mean, this is a huge one. Uh game one, they were led by Tyler Conklin. He had six six innings, three hits, uh, three earned run. He gave up all three runs, but that was it. After that, James, James Gaishel comes in, gets three innings, and gives up no hits, shuts, shuts them down. So, I mean, that's huge for a bullpen arm from a mid-majors team when we're just talking about how a lot of these mid-majors teams don't have a lot of bullpen guys they can rely on uh confidently, but that's a great performance by him.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, take the the longer road you can take in a game kind of just builds your confidence when you get up into into uh into regional play. And I know we're kind of just jumping to the regionals, but we don't want to forget, you know, all these teams got conference plays, but it's still a good look to to look on. Uh to the SOCON. Oh, excuse me. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, I was just I was also gonna touch on uh the other thing about Eastern Illinois. We talked about this that they're very disciplined at the plate. They do not they do not get beat a lot, they don't get cheated, they don't strike out a lot, they have a very high walk rate, and that ended up leading them in that game two game, they end up accumulating nine walks, and eight of the nine hitters, Kenny, get an RBI on the day. So it speaks volumes to the up and down of the lineup, a lot of uh a lot of this play discipline in getting that win. And then in game three, they come back for come from behind, end up with a six six run seventh, led by Dylan Drumkeys, grand slam to end up closing the sweep. So I mean, just hats off to eastern Illinois and and basically jumping jumping right up in the number one in the conference and and with a with a good lead.

SPEAKER_00

I think plate discipline, I think you'll see that be a pretty big topic, uh hopefully in regional uh because of the way pitching staffs tend to be, where you'll have a guy probably just throwing a bunch of walks. So if you're able to just take those walks and be able to read the pitcher's like motions and and and uh like the the pattern of how he's been pitching normally, I think you could take advantage of that. So hats off to Eastern Illinois.

SPEAKER_01

Um now to the SoCon.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, now to the SoCon. Look, we talked about this, we talked about Wafford uh being that team, that favorite team at the beginning of the year, and they're probably dropping down. I'm looking at it right now, they're fifth in the SoCon right now. Western Carolina's gonna move up to the top because Mercer lost a game this week, and I'm gonna take that they won the series though, but oh yeah, they they still just hit they're they're such a power-hitting team. Oh, Mercer? Yeah, yeah, go Bears. But uh yeah, pitching staff, Walford's led by the pitching staff on game one, but after that it was all Western Carolina. Excuse me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think uh I think for this one, Walford uh we'll touch on a little bit in my five arms of the week, but Wafford ends up getting that first win, led by that pitching, pitching arm, single, one arm performance. Uh, but then yeah, game two, they end up getting a game-winning run for Western Carolina to end up tying the series by Jackson Lida. And then game three, Western Carolina ends up coming through with a three-hit day by both Noah Corless and Mason Holton, both with three-hit days uh to take the series. And so, I mean, Kenny, when I saw game one, I saw Wafford get the win. I said, All right, I got two on Waffern. I know Kenny's got two one Western Carolina. I said, I'm feeling pretty good. But then Western Carolina comes through with uh two and three. Western Carolina hasn't been to the postseason since 2016, Kenny. Could this be the year that they would get back?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, 100%. I mean, well, I mean, well, well, if they're gonna have to get by Mercer. Yeah, if they're gonna have to get by Mercer, but it's I mean look, yeah, Mercer's 35 and 13 overall. Western Carolina's 31 and 17. I'm gonna I'm gonna guess that Mercer probably has a higher RPI just and and I'm only saying that because of who are like who's close around them. Um I can't find uh I can't see it. Yeah, oh well. I don't know what that means. But uh yeah, um I I think that would be a pretty good I'll I mean I would love to see Mercer, but I think Mercer, that's uh those two will probably get a pretty tough regional, probably with either Georgia or uh or one of the or Carolina. Yeah, one of those Carolinas schools. But uh look, I'll take I'll take the Western Carolina uh Carolina W because uh you you kind of beat me again. I think you've beaten me each week and set that week we tied. Last week we tied.

SPEAKER_01

And honestly, it's like this was your time to shine, Kenny. I got I got swept on that Southeast Missouri State one. I feel like I was pretty close. Let me let me go back because there was one game where you had a couple tough ones. The winning that Jacksonville State and the Western Carolina one, I mean, those were two of the tightest matchups we had on this list.

SPEAKER_00

So let me I I will take those as huge wins. I'll take those as huge wins. Now, I think one of them I I knew I should have maybe it was the Florida, yeah. It was definitely the Florida game because I was that I was like, I like again. I I can't tell the game.

SPEAKER_01

It turns out it turns out the Army Navy game three was the decider of who was gonna win.

SPEAKER_00

Come on, of course it was. But uh let's let's let's have some fun with the five arms. Oh, there's another notable series. Did we even want to hit these?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, some big ones here. Uh Ole Miss and Arkansas. Arkansas walks off Ole Miss in the in the ninth inning in game three. Huge series for Arkansas's RPI and strength. Yes, it is. If they want an opportunity to host as well, uh, if they want to talk about that, this is a huge series and they need to continue strong down the stretch because man, early in SEC play, they were not playing well. I mean, they weren't even in the top 25 for a while. Even their own fans were like, what are we what are we doing? Like, what is this team? And so for them to get this big series win over Ole Miss is huge. But jump right over to the right, Kenny. Nebraska swept by Ohio State. Not good. Especially when we talk about a Big Ten that is kind of five-team heavy, if you really think about it. Ohio State gets a sweep over Nebraska. It's gonna hurt Nebraska. I I assume that they're gonna be in the late 20s in their rankings if they are ranked.

SPEAKER_00

They they should be. Honestly, I think the if they are ranked is a great question. That is not a good loss. That's an awful loss. That's an awful sweep to get swept. 13 and 11, only 24 and 21 overall. I mean, that's not great. And especially the word Ohio State coming out of somebody's mouth for baseball. No, absolutely not. So yeah, who knows? I don't know who Nebraska has left. I mean, they had a tough series last week against uh Southern Cal, but you know, but uh that was that's really surprising to me. In in a 10-1 on game three, that's not even better. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and then Boston College loses a series to Clemson. That's a big one because Clemson has been struggling all year. Uh, and they were a team that was kind of in the top 25 early in the year, and they've kind of faltered out. But Boston College is a team that's been everybody's been high on. Their pitching staff is strong. They've been playing well in the ACC play. This was an opportunity for them to get another good series under their belt on the road, and they go and losing Clemson. So, I mean, what do you make of Boston College there?

SPEAKER_00

That's what that's the game I was talking about, the series I was talking about earlier where the the they Boston College left their pitcher, and I mean it got ugly. It got ugly with Clemson. Was it yeah, that was game two. It was really bad. I mean, it was I want to say there was three home runs, multiple. I mean, it was non-stop. Not a good look for Boston College. Clemson's dead last in the ACC. Um Boston College could be out of rankings again. They're still trying to figure out that top 25. And and I think they will. Yeah, they're they're they're I think Florida's gonna be a submit up there. Um hell, maybe you think we'll see Elishou? Maybe maybe we'll see.

SPEAKER_01

I don't I don't think some people would be very happy about that. Absolutely. I don't that that's not gonna happen.

SPEAKER_00

LSU seemed to have figured it out. This I mean again in South Carolina, but they were hitting pretty well. Freshman came through and oh whoa! Kentucky oh, I did not see that. I did not see Kentucky beating.

SPEAKER_01

Now we've surprised Kenny on the spot. Kentucky wins game one and two over Tennessee, and then Tennessee ends up getting uh getting that one run game. Kenny, these two teams are both teams that everybody says they're gonna be in the postseason because of them being the SEC and they're strong. Uh so I think both these teams are gonna be probably three seeds. Uh dangerous three seeds. I mean SEC teams in the postseason are just dangerous in general because they're so hard to they're so hard to judge in a way because the conference is so strong. And so um I saw something the other day that said, you know, when you've won so many national championships in a row, your conference kind of gets the benefit of the doubt, and that's what I think this is gonna tell us a lot. Uh Tennessee and Kentucky. That that's a that's a tough one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they they they RPI they they they heavy favor all the SECs, but um look, let's let's let's hit the last two. The ones two uh rankings with Creighton and St. John and Tarlaton State and Utah Tech. I know you've got some love for Tarleton State and they got a good sweep. Tarleton. Tarleton, what was I saying? Tarleton? I think you yeah, don't say that. I'm not I'm not putting out Tarleton. I don't want to upset your wife. Let's not do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Tarleton gets a sweep on the road at Utah Tech and uh goes to first in the whack. That's huge for them because uh this is a team, this is a conference with Cal Baptist who had been playing well out of the year, and Utah Tech was in first in the conference coming into this weekend, but Tarleton beat Texas earlier this year, and they improved to 31 and 16 on the season. So uh I think a lot of everybody that I've seen, a lot of people have Tarleton winning the conference down the road in the whack and being the um team that makes the postseason for them. So we could see them as a fourth seed at AM or Texas. So I think those are both options. But then yeah, you talked about Creighton and St. John's. I watched a little bit of this series. I didn't think uh St. John's was gonna win the series, but they do. No, you did not. Now they're tied atop the conference, but St. John's has the lead due to the head-to-head, so that's big for them. And then that last one we uh we we had on there was UTSA getting a sweep against Wichita State, which kind of gives them a two-game lead over in the American over ECU. So big one for them as well.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you did a little mumbling on the St. John saying that they weren't even gonna get quite so close. You did a little mumbling. I don't remember that. I don't think you brought it up, but I remember you're doing a little mumbling.

SPEAKER_01

Well, because originally we were gonna have that series in our list, but we ended up switching it out for some for somebody else.

SPEAKER_00

So all right. Now I will not jump the gun. Now we can get to your five arms of the week.

SPEAKER_01

You need to make that one of your voice voice things so you can I don't I don't next time, next time. So yeah, that's cool. Alright, five arms are coming down the train tracks. First we'll start off with old Dominion. Darren Kooski. Darren Kuski. Huh? Sorry. I said owed. Go ahead. Uh Darren Kuske and uh Ben Tanton uh combined for a complete game shutout, three hit performance and 15 strikeouts in their 8-0 win over Arkansas State on Friday. Uh again, here's another game from the Sun Belt. Arkansas State's not a bad team either. Old Dominion to get an 8-0 win and a and a great performance by these guys. Uh Cusky gets six innings to 11 strikeouts of the of the 15. And so he improves to 3-6 on the year. He's a junior right-hander, and then Tanton's a freshman right-hander. Uh, gets his first save of the season and improves his ERA to 2.28. And here you go, Kenny. Here's another guy who's coming out of the bullpen. He's only given up runs in two of his 14 appearances on the season. Uh one of those which was like five runs in one, and two, or I believe two or three in the other. And outside of that, hasn't given up any runs in the other 12 appearances, and I think it's six or seven in a row without any. So great job. Hats off to a freshman. Uh, and then we jump right into Wafford again. Alec Bouchard, and I'm pretty sure we've talked about this guy before in here. Uh, but Bouchard gets a complete game, two hit performance, only gives up one earned run, 14 strikeouts on 115 pitches. It's his first complete game uh of his of his career, and it's in his first season as a full-time starter. And then he also that was a career high in 14 strikeouts, and in this game ends up improving him to eight and two with an ERA of 1.68 on the season. I mean, 1.68 is big. Especially in his first season starting. First year, that's incredible. And in the only game they win in the series, too. So hats off to Waffert in that one. Next, we jump over to Hawaii. Uh, Isaiah Magdaleno. There you go, Magdaleno gets a complete game one hit performance in a career high 16 strikeouts. It's also his first season as a full-time starter. So for him to get a complete game one hitter, it's his first complete game shutout, career high 16 strikeouts, only gave up one walk in the game and faced only three batters over the minimum. Can he in 107 pitches? That's that's great efficiency in a rate nine-inning game. And so he gets the one in a 1-0 win over UC Riverside. We've talked about it before. Pitching performances in 1-0 games, that is that takes that takes a lot of pressure to go in and continue to yeah, and continue to remember like, hey, my offense isn't doing a lot today. I gotta keep it coming through. And he did very well in this one and gets the win. Next we go to Blake Lobel uh for Southeastern. He gets a complete game shutout. They only it was in the Saturday game where they end up getting the run rule, so he only throws seven innings, but gets three hits, only gives up three hits and gets five strikeouts. He's formerly from LSU Eunice, can he, who's a a good a good baseball program, I believe they're in AI, right? Yeah, form system.

SPEAKER_00

A form system.

SPEAKER_01

So he ties up.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, his name sounds familiar. Does it? Yeah, that's probably why.

SPEAKER_01

He's a he's a he's a southern Louisiana South uh Louisiana boy. So uh, but he gives a season low, tied a season low in hits with those three hits, and uh it's his first game of the season not allowing any runs. So hats off to him getting a big win over the team that was right on their tails in the in the Southland, so big performance there. And our last one is Cole Furman and Sam Greer. They combined for a complete game shutout as well, only giving up two hits and having 13 strikeouts and a 3-0 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Uh, you would look at this and say, well, St. Bonaventure isn't very good, so why are we talking about this? Well, the important thing to note here is most likely St. Joe's is going to be the team that ends up being the A-10 representative. So it's important to remember these two guys when they come down to the board uh when when their pitching comes in uh in the in postseason, assuming they get there. Uh Furman, the senior left-hander, he's our only left-hander on the list today. He was at West Virginia for three seasons before this one. And uh this was a season high, 13 strikeouts for him, only one one hit by pitch and no walks. He improves to four and three on the season and he gets his ERA down to 4.8. And Greer's a sophomore right-hander and went at 303 down in the ninth to close it out and get his second save of the season. So hats off to the five arms, plus two of the week. Plus two.

SPEAKER_00

Uh Jake Lobel is uh Elizabeth. Yeah, Lobel. He is uh he was with the 2024 national championship championship team with LSU E. That's why I that's why I reckon and they are JUCO. They are JUCO.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So is um it's LSU Shreveport that is NAIA, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. But uh we'll finish it off with our uh trivia question. Uh which team has the most home runs in a college world series? This is in a single series, so I didn't put single series. Um I think this is in a single single season, uh right?

SPEAKER_01

Across we're not talking about just the final series, right? The whole thing. No, no, no, no. We're talking about the final series. We're talking about the final series. Just the final through final series of the season. Uh for the for the championship, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the championship like the Omaha. Okay, at Omaha. All of Omaha. All of Omar. All of Omaha.

SPEAKER_01

Not not the regionals, not not just the final, like final series. Yeah. So we're talking about all of at Omaha. Okay. Interesting. Uh are we gonna uh do they use a certain do they use certain brand of bats, can he?

SPEAKER_00

So I I can give you a hint. It's it's definitely one of the eras. I think it's it's the it's the big bat era of like all the 90s, where they were just hitting bombs after bombs, and then the and then part there's some records from 08 and 09. We're talking the the stealth bats, yeah, before the B B core. Yeah, yeah, before B B core and before B B E S R or R S or whatever it was. So it's a it's a 90s team. It's a 90s team.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, interesting. Well, I mean, LSU gets five in the 90s, so it's like if it's one of those, you gotta pick one of them. Yeah, you gotta pick the right year. You can't just say LSU and think I get you the win. You gotta give the year.

SPEAKER_00

Gotta give the year. Yeah, I well, and what brought it up, and I'll end it there because brought the thought of about the 2009 national championship team and everybody talking about the the orange stealth bat. So I was watching that video, which is a great video. But anyway, Jason, final thoughts.

SPEAKER_01

Final thoughts. Yeah, big weekend. And uh we're not gonna do our 16 regional hosts today because, like Kenny was mentioning prior to the show, uh, Wednesday we're gonna do a Live showing of our field of 64. And so that'll be really fun. And that's when we're going to reveal our 16.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think it will just give us a little bit more time, especially with all the rankings coming out this week, and I think we'll see some big changes. But uh anyway, guys, uh, thank y'all for watching this episode. Uh, please make sure you like, share, subscribe, leave a comment. Uh, come check us out. We'll be live YouTube, uh, Facebook, we'll be on Twitter, Instagram. We'll we'll try to get them all. But uh appreciate y'all for watching. Uh go tigers and see you later.
