Game one of the College World Series is over. Oklahoma dominates North Carolina 9-3. You are listening to the Lucky Finn inning show. Jason Ide is not here. Um he is on vacation. He's at a uh wedding for one of our friends. But I'm live in here. We've kind of taken a little break. He's been a little busy watching all these college games and the World Cup's on, but we're focused on college baseball and a team that I personally did not even see getting this far. I was even surprised they even got a good seed in the in the in the regional play, is Oklahoma. Oklahoma has dominated this entire college world series. And I think Berkey said it, and I I kind of even want to been saying it. Um Oklahoma is good on like every single level of play. And I said this last year when LSU was in the College World Series, and I I can't remember. I don't, in my opinion, and I believe we were, I don't think we were that hot to be in a in the college world like throughout the season. We got hotter. And just watching the way we played and kind of the um even the the overall feeling of all the other teams, like the these college world series, you know which team is more like professional. Oklahoma looks so professional, and I mean professional on like you are cutting those minimal mistakes, like the errors, like running into people in the outfield, uh dropping easy ground balls. I mean, Georgia, West Virginia are prime examples, North Carolina today. I mean, again, it is a huge outfield, it's really hard to cover the ground, but Oklahoma didn't mess up once. Let's talk about their pitching. Okay, the pitching is, and they they had pitching issues in the issue in the beginning of the year, and that's where I was that was my issue with them. And I think they've just found, I mean, the McCurius brothers, uh, is that how you say their names? Yeah, McCurious. LJ and and Xander. These two dudes are incredible. North Carolina, not North Carolina, Oklahoma today. This was the most pitching they've used this entire College of the World Series. Three. Three. They've only used two guys. Yeah, two guys the entire World Series. Bamba, they had 10 strikeouts, combined 10 strikeouts, Georgia 11. The second game against Georgia was six, and that was the that was the higher scoring game. That was a what, 11-4? And today they had 11 combined. Their pitching alone has it's it's kept them in the game. And we'll talk the hitting is absolutely incredible. It's not just the long ball, how Jason and I talk about it. It's not just the long ball that Oklahoma has. And that's honestly their advantage. That's their advantage in this game. North Carolina is not a home run hitting team, they've been hitting home runs, and you kind of saw that you cannot do just home run ball, and that's honestly, and everyone has said it, that's why Georgia's not even in this call in this final. Georgia couldn't even hit a fly for the life of them. So Georgia's home run ball was not gonna work in a in a stadium like Charles Schwab, I mean it's so big. You gotta have it, you have to have it all around. That's why I thought Troy was pretty impressive. I thought honestly, deep down, and it's hard to say deep down, but Troy probably Troy didn't do a bad job. Troy was a team that if they had a little bit more talent, Troy had the team to be in the College World Chairs because they had every single level was covered, just not enough levels. But Oklahoma has it all. It's it's absolutely crazy. I mean, uh Desan Harris went three for four, two doubles. Let's let's go over their lineup. So Jason Walk, two for five, Camden Johnson, two for four. Uh Delton Lachance, three for five. I mean, these guys only one, two, one, two, two guys went over. And I believe I guess Trey's probably got a couple walks. He's over five. No, Brendan probably had a couple walks in uh over three. But I mean, North Carolina, three for five is probably their yeah, three for high was three for five was their best hitter. I mean, they left a plenty of plenty of guys on base, but I don't think that was going to matter at this point. Oklahoma was hitting the ball so well. They had the, they had, they had the jump on on the pitching staff. And I guess we could start, let me start off at the first inning. Oh, North Carolina got their three runs in the first inning. That was it for the rest of the game. And props to the pitching staff for Oklahoma and North Carolina, props to them too, because they recognized, they were reading the spin-off of the ball, they were recognizing the pitches off the bat, and then after that, Oklahoma settled in. That's why you know, coming from an LSU fan perspective, I mean, LSU fans, we understand that you're going to give up. It's pretty common to give up a bunch of runs in the first inning, and it's just it's honestly expected, and it you just kind of every everybody settles in. You've seen that in the the whole regionals. So honestly, I wasn't worried, but let me tell you, Oklahoma being the bet wise, I don't know what with the what they're you know, they were underdogs, they were plus something. But even for, I mean, I put money down on them beating Georgia, and that was probably the easiest money I could have won. So look, there's two more games left. North Carolina is a team that will find it. They're they're a scrappy baseball team in the terms of they'll find ways to win. But in my opinion, Oklahoma's got all the levels right now. They look so dominant. And I mean, if they're only using two pitches a game, and you got two brothers using all their power, and you got two moms, Taki's mom, and and mom power is out for so anyway. I mean, I think if if that's the quickest post-game review I you we can do, um, but absolutely incredible. Uh, Oklahoma looks incredible. And now for North Carolina side, you know, it's I I think for them is I think your your approach to the plate needs to be better. And you gotta find that very situational hitting is very important. If you can't rely on this long ball, and and I don't say I don't think their gameplay was just, I mean, their pitching staff has got a lot of work to do on when it comes to defending defending runners. Because I mean, the the I don't know how many stolen bases Oklahoma had today, but they were like just give me's. They were just give me stolen bases. Um they, I mean, before the guy even, I mean, before he even like barely moved his leg, they were gone. I mean, they were shuffling and gone. So there wasn't a chance. Um, but we'll see. We'll see what happens next. I mean, I'm I think when you just comparing last year's, and and that was LSU and Oklahoma. I mean, LSU and um coastal, you saw the professionalism there. When I'm talking about you look at the the demeanor of the other team, and you can just kind of tell that you've won. And that's what the feeling I had last year because I looked at coastal and I said, Oh, they don't have a chance, they don't have a chance. And I whether coach got thrown out. I was like, oh, this is over. But Carolina looked down today, man, and they cannot, it can't be like that. You gotta find your rhythm, re uh, you know, regroup yourself. But look, we got one more game left. I think Oklahoma is gonna take this. It could be a closer one, it could be a closer one. Um, because you kind of you you're you're looking over that film, you're figuring out what you need to do. But give me Oklahoma, I cannot believe I'm saying that. I I was hating on Oklahoma all year. I was Oklahoma hate watching, honestly, but Jesus, I guess that that SEC ball comes through. They're they're a power team. But look, 14 hits to seven hits, just all right. Well, I guess that's that for me. Uh, we'll see y'all tomorrow. Depending on depending on you could see me another day if we go to get uh three games. Um, I kind of get Jason's thoughts of after the after you know he gets back from everything. But thank y'all for watching. We'll see y'all game two.
